La La Land Cafe Is Coming to Del Mar Plaza

Del Mar is getting a bright new dose of yellow. La La Land Cafe has officially signed a lease at Del Mar Plaza, bringing the viral coffee and matcha brand to San Diego County for the first time.

The café is known for its cheerful yellow cups, airy white interiors, photogenic specialty drinks, and kindness-centered identity. Its new home at Del Mar Plaza feels like a natural match: an oceanfront destination where coffee, shopping, dining, and a beautiful coastal view can all become part of the same afternoon.

An opening date has not been announced, and construction details are still under wraps. For now, here is everything we know and what I am most excited to try when the doors finally open.

San Diego’s First La La Land Cafe

According to SanDiegoVille, La La Land Cafe has leased a highly visible corner space at Del Mar Plaza overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The upscale shopping and dining center is located at 1555 Camino Del Mar in the heart of Del Mar.

The location will be the company’s first in San Diego County. The Dallas-born brand already has a large presence in Los Angeles and Orange County and has expanded to more than 35 cafés across California, Texas, Arizona, and Tennessee since opening its first café in 2019.

That growth has been fueled partly by social media, but La La Land is more than a pretty cup. The brand has built a distinct experience around optimism, friendly service, and an instantly recognizable palette of bright yellow and clean white.

The Mission Behind the Coffee

Founder Francois Reihani created La La Land with a mission connected to young adults transitioning out of the foster-care system. The company developed a workforce program offering paid internships, mentorship, life-skills development, and employment opportunities.

Its nonprofit arm, the La La Foundation, continues that work through scholarships, mentorship, and career development. The cafés do not make the social mission feel like a marketing display. Instead, it shows up through a culture centered on kindness and human connection.

That purpose is one of the reasons this opening feels especially welcome. Del Mar Plaza is gaining a fashionable café, but it is also welcoming a company that has tried to make hospitality mean something beyond the transaction.

What Will Be on the Menu?

The final Del Mar menu has not been released, but existing La La Land cafés offer a colorful lineup of coffee, matcha, coolers, and toast.

Popular drinks include:

  • The iced La La Latte
  • Banana Cloud Latte
  • Strawberry Cloud Latte
  • Matcha Squared Latte
  • French Toast Latte in espresso or matcha versions
  • Upsidedown Latte
  • Strawberry Fields

The brand is particularly known for ceremonial matcha drinks and cloud-style lattes topped with creamy cold foam. Guests can also expect classic espresso beverages, fruit coolers, and a selection of avocado and sweet toasts.

For something savory, the avocado toasts at other locations may be finished with ingredients such as burrata or cream cheese. Sweeter options can feature fresh fruit, almond butter, or hazelnut cacao spread.

Menus can vary by café, so we will have to wait for the official Del Mar lineup. I am hoping the signature cloud drinks and plenty of matcha make the trip south.

Why Del Mar Plaza Is the Perfect Setting

La La Land Cafe is designed to be photographed, shared, and enjoyed slowly. Del Mar Plaza offers exactly the right backdrop.

The center sits above the coast with ocean views, open-air terraces, restaurants, and boutiques. A morning visit could begin with a matcha and a walk through town. An afternoon stop could become a pause between shopping and sunset. It is easy to imagine those bright yellow cups against the blue Pacific.

The café also joins a growing group of notable food and beverage businesses choosing North County. Marneys Tidbits recently covered the many new San Diego restaurant openings arriving in 2026 and the upcoming Ikaria restaurant in La Jolla. La La Land gives local readers another opening to keep on the radar.

What We Still Do Not Know

The lease is confirmed, but La La Land Cafe and Del Mar Plaza have not announced an opening date. Construction timing, the exact unit, hiring details, and the location-specific menu have not been publicly disclosed.

That means any specific opening date circulating online should be treated cautiously until the café or Del Mar Plaza confirms it. I will update this article as more information becomes available.

Before planning a visit, check the official La La Land Cafe website and Del Mar Plaza’s channels for the latest announcement.

A Sunny New Stop for Del Mar

La La Land Cafe has mastered the art of turning a coffee run into a mood. The drinks are colorful, the spaces are bright, and the message is unapologetically kind.

Add an ocean view at Del Mar Plaza, and this could become one of North County’s prettiest new places for a morning latte, an afternoon matcha, or a relaxed catch-up with a friend. I will be watching for the opening date and deciding which cloud latte to order first.
